This couple has been living the expat life for 16 years and while it has been wonderful, it's time for them to be with family now. They have thought about what they would want people to know about living here. You will have amazing friends, truly amazing. Friends who would drop everything to help you out if you asked and will be there if you have an emergency. Friends who watch out for you. Friends you will laugh and talk with at least 2x a week, either at Ernie's Los Amigos restaurant, or at Rana Azul Resort. You will be invited to great parties, parties that start at noon and end before dark so people can get home. You will go to sleep hearing the frogs and wake up to the howler monkeys. The women here are trying to get a game day going, where we meet together on Wednesdays for the afternoon and play mahjong, dominoes, Rummy-cube or whatever, drink some wine and have fun. There is ample opportunity for socialization here. We have often hosted a brunch or had a party.
You the prospective buyers will see the incredible beauty here, the amazing wildlife, that is a huge part of what is to love about living here. We've had adventures with sloths and kinkajoos and we have never seen a poisonous snake on our property. The property is just less than an acre. For $15 a week, you can have someone come in to keep it trimmed if you don't want to do it yourself.
The cleaning lady is $20 a day and usually gets lunch included. People want to be close to Bocas town for the hospital. Almirante hospital is a far better one. They have good doctors, good nurses and they have x-ray equipment. Brent spent 3 days there for an infection and it cost him $28 which included x-ray and antibiotics. We have an excellent Panamanian doctor just outside of Almirante. Dr.Garcia. There have been a couple of emergency runs to the Almirante hospital at night because of friends in difficulty, the man who owns the dock where we park takes us to the hospital and stays with us acting as translator. He does this for all of us here as we are his friends.. A friend over in Dolphin Bay hosts a veterinarian clinic every few months so our animals can be seen by Dr.Gloria.
Instead of going to Bocas town, we go to Almirante or Changuinola to shop. The people are friendly. Ernie and a lady across the bay, Mina, both run small stores where you can buy gasoline, propane, eggs, oil, sugar etc if you run out by mistake. We have good cell service and good internet here. We have a marine radio and a BEN number. We have never had anything stolen even from our deck, despite leaving the door unlocked a couple of times. I think we are safer here than in Bocas.
