Like all rural schoolhouses around the county, Fairplay school provided a community meeting place for neighboring families. Dances, religious meetings and ceremonies, wedding receptions, spelling bees, plays and more were held here.

1914-1930 was the heyday for rural schools, including Fairplay.

These rural schoolhouses are becoming rarer with each passing year, yet there is rich history within each one. Saving them is encouraged and possible!

The Wheeler Family are one of the oldest, most established ranches in NW Colorado, always active in county and town events including bringing horses in ski carnival and pulling kids on skis. 

Directions: From Library in Steamboat, head West on Hwy 40 go 8 miles, turn Right or North just this side of Saddle Mountain Ranch, follow road to Right .09 miles to the property on the left.

(A) This is a CASH ONLY auction to settle an estate. You must be registered to bid and made arrangements to CLOSE WTIH CERTIFIED FUNDS in NO MORE THAN 30 DAYS from date of contract. “We are prepared to close immediately.” 

(B) A 12% down payment will be due on auction day from the buyer at the time OF ENTERING into a purchase contract.
