March 23, 2018 (KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – The National Auctioneers Association (NAA) recently announced that Shawn Terrel, president of United Country Real Estate | Auction Services, has been endorsed by the NAA Election Committee as a candidate for the Association’s vice-president.
Terrel is no stranger to the auction business with more than two decades of professional auction and bid-calling experience under his belt. He is currently the president of United Country Real Estate’s Auction Services where he oversees the management and operations of the largest integrated network of real estate and auction professionals in the country. He also owns two businesses: he serves as a broker/auctioneer for United Country Real Estate | Kansas City Auction and Realty based in Kansas City, Mo., and is the co-owner and COO for Mineral Marketing, LLC, which specializes in oil and gas mineral lease consulting, marketing and mineral rights sales.
“I have a strong desire to help the auction industry grow and continue to become recognized as the valuable marketing and sales method that we know it to be”, said Terrel. “The National Auctioneers Association has been an important part of my personal achievements and the worldwide success of the auction industry. I recognize this elected position as an opportunity to give something back to the NAA and to all of the auctioneers which put their trust in the association to be good stewards on their behalf for the future auction profession.”
Terrel is a former NAA Board of Director and past chairman of the NAA HR and technology committees, past co-chairman of the NAA membership committee, past chairman and president of the Oklahoma State Auctioneers Association. Currently, he is an active member of auctioneer associations in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Texas. He earned the title of Oklahoma State Champion Auctioneer in 2007 and then in 2010, he was the Kansas State Champion Auctioneer. He is a graduate of both the Missouri Auction School and Texas Auction Academy and holds the CAI (Certified Auctioneers Institute) and AARE (Accredited Auctioneer Real Estate) designations. Terrel is also a retired Oklahoma Army National Guard veteran with more than 21 years of service.
“There is no better time to be in the professional auction business than today,” said Terrel. “America is witnessing the greatest amount of auction exposure we have ever experienced. Our founding fathers purposely built the NAA to empower auctioneers with the tools, training and internal social network needed to excel in this great profession. Over the years, the NAA has met these goals, providing a valuable service to auctioneers, however the industry is changing and we must continue to change with it. It’s my goal to leverage my business experience, passion for the industry, belief in fiscal responsibility and personal accountability to lead the NAA through these changing times.”
If elected, Terrel will serve one year as vice-president before assuming the presidency of NAA for the second year. In his third year, he will serve as chairman of the board. Voting will take place on July 19 at the 69th International Auctioneers Conference and Show in Jacksonville, Fla. Absentee ballots will be available on May 1.
