Son and Daughter Make History as Two of the Youngest to Complete Academy
July 25, 2016 (KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – The recent graduating class at the Texas Auction Academy included a true family affair and history making moment for two United Country Real Estate families. An 11-year-old and 13-year-old are two of the youngest ever to complete the training at the Academy.
Mother and son duo Julie Gallaway and her son Thomas, 13, completed the week long training at the Auction School located just outside of Dallas, Texas. One of the instructors for the Academy was Trey Gallaway, husband and father to Julie and Thomas. Trey is the owner and auctioneer for United Country – Central Texas Auction and Realty in Temple Texas. He is also a 1998 graduate of the Texas Auction Academy.
“I am a first generation auctioneer. There hasn’t been anyone in our family to ever be in the auction business,” said Trey Gallaway. “Now, my wife and my oldest son Thomas is following the new family trend.”
Along with Thomas Gallaway, 11-year-old Annalyssa Holliday completed the academy. Her Mother Jennifer Holliday is a representative for United Strategic Client Services and previously worked for nine years in a United Country office in her home state of Wisconsin. Jennifer is a 2008 graduate of the Texas Auction Academy.
“Annalyssa participated in the Miss American Coed Pageant at age three and took first place in the talent competition for her rendition of the Betty Botter tongue twister. She called bids up to $100 and then said ‘Sold’,” Jennifer recalled. “As a first generation auctioneer myself, I am very proud of my daughter and hope she will join me in my real estate auction business someday. She is already planning on attending the 2017 National Auctioneers Association Conference and Show in Columbus, Ohio, next year and competing in the International Junior Auctioneer Championship (IJAC).”
Even though they are two of the youngest to ever complete the Academy, both Thomas and Annalyssa took the same course work and received the same diploma as their fellow adult classmates. He will be in 8th grade this coming school year and excels academically. Julie said he is already a vital part in the auction aspect of their United Country office. Annalyssa is entering the 7th grade in her hometown of Sparta, Wisconsin.
“Attending the TAA boosted Thomas’ confidence in his auctioneering skills and knowledge,” said Julie Gallaway. “He already contributes to Central Texas Auction Services in clerking and technology assistance, but he now plans to ring and call bids during the auction. He wanted to attend auctioneer school at such an early age because he loves to learn and is eager to take on new challenges.”
The Gallaway and Holliday families are just a couple of the many families who continue to show their commitment and dedication to succeeding at United Country Real Estate. There were six other United Country affiliates and partner instructors at the Academy, including Mike Jones, President of United Real Estate Group– Auction Services.
“In the past, we have not considered allowing students of this age, but due to their unique ability to interact with adults, ability to take and pass state educational requirements and their unique family backgrounds, it was obvious to me this was the time to make an exception and allow them to attend the course” said Jones, School Director and Owner. “We were not disappointed. They did a great job!”
Texas Auction Academy conducts three, nine day training courses per year. It hosts auctioneers, business leaders and professionals from all over the country and teaches auction fundamentals and bid calling.
