We’re right in the middle of old man winter and with that comes snow in many parts of the country. This winter, some areas in the South are even experiencing unusual snow storms. For farmers, it’s extremely important to make sure snow doesn’t hinder day-to-day operations. Here’s the scoop on some snow removal equipment and tools that can make your daily chores a bit easier no matter what Mother Nature brings.
Snow shovel. While this may be an obvious solution, a simple snow shovel can be easily overlooked. To clear small necessities like your porch, stairs and walkway, a snow shovel can quickly become your best friend.
Snow plow/ snow blade. A plain snow plow or snow blade can be attached to any terrain vehicles like an ATV or UTV, any sized tractor or even a pickup truck. They come in all shapes and sizes and can be a lot cheaper (and just as effective) as a snow blower.
Snow blower. The more expensive, but efficient, route is to invest in a snow blower. These are also versatile and come in all sizes. Some even have their own engines that ride on the back of an ATV. They can clear a large path for you in no time with little effort.
Roof rake. We can’t forget about the roof, where snow can easily collect and build up, causing extra pressure to the rooftop and can break down the buildings structure. A roof rake allows you to clear off your roof while being safely planted on the ground.
Digging bar. For the tough, small spaces that aren’t cleared out by a shovel or snow plow, use a digging bar to chip and pry away the snow and ice. These are particularly handy around doorways and walkways.
The bottom line is that some winter weather shouldn’t hold you back from conducting business as usual. Investing in the snow removal tools that are right for your farm will not only keep business booming, but it will keep your most precious valuables, you and your family, safe.
