Barr Lake State Park, is a Short Drive North East of Property 

There’s something for every type of outdoor person – from the fishing enthusiast and boater to the naturalist 

Bicyclists of all ages and abilities, nature hikers and horseback riders enjoy the level 8.8-mile multi-use trail that circles the lake, passing by several wildlife viewing stations and the park's wildlife refuge. More than 350 species of birds have been spotted in the park. Numerous bald eagles' winter at Barr Lake and one pair stays to nest and raise its young every year. Barr Lake's Nature Center has displays about the park's wildlife and you can have your questions answered by a naturalist. 

Fishing enthusiasts and boaters, including kayakers and canoeists, enjoy the lake's calm waters as powerboats are limited to electric trolling or gasoline motors of 10 horsepower or less. Visit The Wild Life Animal Sancturary Keenesburg, Colorado 

The Sanctuary's two primary missions involve rescuing and caring for animals – and educating people about the Captive Wildlife Crisis.  To that end, we invite people who want to learn more about the work we do to visit our unique facility in person.

However, the Sanctuary is not a Zoo and offers a completely different experience than what most people are used to.  Our rescued animals live in large acreage open habitats and are never forced to remain front-and-center just so people can see them more easily.  

Yet, our elevated walkway (which is more than 1.5 miles long) spans across numerous habitats and provides plenty of opportunities for our guests to see many of the rescued animals closer.

It is very important for people to come to the Sanctuary for the right reasons, and not just for entertainment.  With more than 170,000 people visiting yearly, it's obvious the Sanctuary is an amazing place to visit and learn – yet, we purposely do not strive to attract the 1.5 million visitors that would normally go to Denver Zoo.

Instead, the vast majority of visitors to the Wild Animal Sanctuary come to experience an incredibly serene setting where Tigers, Wolves, Bears and Prides of African Lions get to roam freely after having been rescued and rehabilitated.

Every Lion, Tiger, Bear, Wolf and other animal living at the Sanctuary was rescued from an illegal or abusive situation and desperately needs your help to survive.  Visiting the Sanctuary is a privilege, and requires a serious commitment by people in order to be part of the solution to the Captive Wildlife Crisis. Call us at 303-536-0118.

Banner Lakes State Wild Life Park

This large wildlife area is a very worthwhile destination; however, it is closed during waterfowl hunting season to everyone except hunters. In addition, the north half of the area is closed from April 1 through July 15 to protect nesting waterfowl. However, the trails south of CO 52 are still accessible during that time, and provide access to several nice marshes, ponds, and thickets. Several species of ducks and other waterbirds nest here, along with several species of raptors, and owls sometimes roost in the thickets. Be sure to check for seasonal restrictions before heading out.

Directions: From I-76 in Hudson: take exit 31/CO 52 and go four miles east. The north parking lot is on CO 52, just past CR 53. The south parking lot is 1/2 mile farther east.

Dates of Access: Open all year with limitations. North of Hwy 52 is closed April 1 – July 15. Closed from the second weekend of October to the second of November. Limited access between September 1 to February 28. Refer to CPW website for more detailed information
