Wesley was first settled between 1815 and 1820 and was incorporated in 1833. It was named for John Wesley who was the leader of the English Methodist movement. The town was once a very busy place with multiple saw mills, shingle mills, a barrel mill, stagecoach stops and 5 one room schools at one time! The area was rich in farming, blueberries and logging. The guide business of fishing and hunting were also a big thing in this area and still are.
