Fishing During COVID-19

There is definitely a “new normal” when it comes to most things, especially the activities we love to do. For those of us wanting to take advantage of the nice spring weather, fishing seems like the perfect outlet as the fresh air can calm your mind. But with many businesses across the country still closed, how are we supposed to get a fishing license and bait?

A fishing license is a fast and affordable way to contribute to your state and local conservation departments and most state require them. (If you’re caught without one, you’ll face a fine). The good news is, many states are temporarily waiving the requirement to get a license and they are also opening boat ramps, hiking trails and conservation areas for public use. However, there are still a lot of guidelines Fishing and Game Commissions want you to follow.

– Continue to practice social distancing. Stay six feet apart.
– Fish/boat with 10 people or fewer.
– If a certain area is full, look for another less crowded area.
– Take sanitary items with you like hand sanitizer, wipes and soap.
– Stay home if you have been sick or symptomatic in the last two weeks.

If you have more questions about current guidelines or are unsure if your state has waived the license fee, contact your local conservation department.
