About Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota
Sturgeon Lake is located in Pine County, along its Northern border with Carlton County. Interstate 35 and Highway 61 both run through for easy commuting North or South. Located just over 100 miles North of the Twin Cities, Sturgeon Lake is a convenient getaway for many recreational opportunities including fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, and trail riding.
The Willard Munger Trail runs along Highway 61. The paved trail that runs from Hinckley to Duluth is great for biking in the spring, summer and fall; and come winter serves as a snowmobile trail. The South Soo Line Trail also runs through town for snowmobiling in the winter, and ATV/UTV riding in the summer. General Andrews State Forest also offers trail riding opportunities.
Sturgeon Lake is also home to many area lakes, most notably Sturgeon Lake. a 1,700+ acre lake on the East side of Interstate-35. Other popular lakes in the area include Island Lake (526 acres) and Sand Lake (527 acres). Bullhead, crappie, sunfish, bass, northern, and walleye can all be found.
Located between Willow River and Moose Lake, Sturgeon Lake residents will likely attend one school or the other. Willow River ISD 577 is a K-12 campus with early childhood and community education. The recently constructed Moose Lake ISD 97 school is also K-12 with early childhood and community education.
