Thorndike is close to where they hold the Common Ground<br \/>\nFair annually, which is a large fair focused on organic farming and sustainable<br \/>\nliving. There is also an Amish community nearby. There are some small grocery<br \/>\nstores and restaurants in the area. The closest hospital is Northern Lights<br \/>\nSebasticook Valley in Pittsfield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Halfmoon Stream in Thorndike offers an opportunity for<br \/>\nfishing and canoeing. Unity Pond is about 10 minutes away. This pond is the<br \/>\nlargest in Waldo County. Unity Pond is great for fishing, boating, and<br \/>\nswimming. Thorndike is also about 11 miles from Frye Mountain Game Management<br \/>\nArea, a 5241-acre area that allows hunting. This area also has hiking<br \/>\nopportunities, but you are advised to wear blaze orange during hunting season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Thorndike is 30 Minutes from Waterville, which would be the<br \/>\nclosest large city. Waterville has most of what anyone would want or need.<br \/>\nThere are several large stores and restaurants, and the Waterville Opera House,<br \/>\nwhich offers a great array of entertainment. You would also be 30 minutes from<br \/>\nNewport.
