There are a lot of different techniques and tools you can use depending on what type of bird you are trying to call and what your end goal is. If hunting a turkey, duck or waterfowl, is your goal, using a call will attract those animals. The same will happen if you are just trying to birdwatch as using different techniques can draw the attention of many different species of birds.<\/p>\n

The two techniques we will discuss today are using calls and just using your bare hands.<\/p>\n

Technique #1: Using a call. Many hunters use hand calls to attract their prey. You use these by sucking in or blowing out air to make a noise. These are used to attract waterfowl and turkey (as well as deer and coyotes). If you\u2019re hunting turkey, another option is to use a box call, which makes noise when you rub its pieces together.<\/p>\n

Technique #2: Using your hands. You\u2019d be surprised the sounds you can make by just using your hands. You just have to make sure you\u2019re using the correct technique and hand placement. The proper technique would include cupping your hands together (one on top of the other) and then aligning your thumbs. Then putting your hands to your mouth and either inhaling or exhaling depending on the noise you\u2019re trying to make. An experienced hunter or avid birdwatcher will be able to help guide you. Once you\u2019re comfortable, you can explore advanced hand techniques like moving your hands closer or farther apart to make different sounds.<\/p>\n
