However, any time there is ice on a body of water, there are many dangers to consider. There\u2019s truly no way to judge the stability of the ice by looking at it. So, if you\u2019re ready to have some fun on the ice, here are some precautions you need to take.<\/p>\n<p><em>Measure the ice<\/em>. A safe amount of ice is four inches for things like walking or <a href=\"https:\/\/fishing-properties.unitedcountry.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fishing<\/a>. If you want to put an ATV or snowmobile on it, then it needs to be five or more inches.<\/p>\n<p><em>Use the buddy system<\/em>. Never walk, play or skate on any type of ice alone. Always bring at least one friend. Also, bring a cell phone in case of an emergency.<\/p>\n<p><em>Stay clear of white ice<\/em>. If the ice has a white tint to it, that means the ice contains air or snow, making it a lot weaker. Clear, blue or even green ice is normally strong enough to hold.<\/p>\n<p><em>Watch your pets<\/em>. If you own a dog, they will typically be out there with you. Keep a close eye on them and, if all else fails, keep them on a leash.<\/p>\n<p>If you do fall through the ice, make sure you try to keep calm. Face the direction you came from, spread your arms out, kick your feet and try to pull yourself back up on the ice. Once on the ice, remain lying down and slowly roll away to safety.
