West Virginia has about 22,800 ranches and farms on some 3.5 million acres, per the USDA’s State Agriculture Overview. Compared to many U.S. states, West Virginia features a fairly balanced mix of pastureland, cropland and woodland. Yet, sales of livestock, poultry and related products account for 80 percent of the state’s ag economy compared to 20 percent for crops. Chickens and turkeys play a big role, as do cattle and calves. Much of this is reflected on the farms and ranches for sale in West Virginia.
