DIY Gifts You Can Make at Home

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about something special to give to that someone even more special. Many believe that homemade gifts are more thoughtful than those bought from a store.

We’ve picked out some of our favorite picks from Country Living Magazine and HGTV that you can make from the comforts of your home, whether you live in the country, city or suburbs.

Heart-shaped pillow. Dress up your living room with a heart-shaped pillow. The pillow can be a cute addition all year round and can easily be made with your choice of fabric, stuffing and a sewing machine. Personalize it with a phrase like “I love you” or “xoxo.”

Flower wreath. Use real (or fake) flowers of your choice to make a beautiful wreath that you can hang on an interior or exterior door. You can also use tissue paper to make your own flowers. All you’ll need besides flowers are ribbon, hot glue and plaster or card board.

Sparkling wine or champagne glasses. Use your everyday wine glass and give it some flair! Add some sparkle with glitter or use puff paint to add your own design. Use these to toast your significant other on special occasions.

Wall Art. Surprise your Valentine with a personalized design to hang up all year long. All you’ll need is a wood slat and a paint pen. You can also buy wooden letters that spell out a word and use scrapbook paper to dress it up. These hang easily or you can put it on a shelf for display.

Sweet Treats. Not the craftiest? We aren’t either. Take it to the kitchen and whip up something sweet. You can’t go wrong with cupcakes or cookies. Decorate them with heart shaped candies or add little signs with cute notes.

Conversation Heart centerpiece. This one is our favorite! Get a small clear bowl or vase and fill it full of conversation heart candies. After, put roses (or your favorite flower) in it to make a fun (and edible) centerpiece for you table. Side note: we heard Conversation Hearts are getting reworked this year so you might have to wait for next year for this gift. However, we’re sure there are plenty of alternatives.

Don’t have a Valentine this year? Don’t worry, these gifts can be given for any special occasion. Happy crafting!
