The town of Savoy is home to a few remaining residents and buildings.  It was one of many railroad towns along the Great Northern Railway.  Across the road from the property stands the old bank vault, the only remains of the bank that burnt down years ago.  “On Pennyless Lane” you will find the remaining foundation of an unknown building along one side of the road, with the old Savoy Schoolhouse on the other side of the road.  It is a beautiful, privately owned historic schoolhouse that still has what looks to be its original playground equipment.  The nearest schools are in Harlem, MT.  There is the Harlem Elementary School and the Harlem Jr./Sr. High School.

Dodson is located only 14+/- miles from Savoy.  The town of Dodson is home to roughly 125 people according to the 2020 census.  It is home of the Phillips County Fair, the longest continuous-running fair that started in 1915.  While visiting, you will feel a huge sense of community, though the size of the town isn’t the biggest, there is still plenty to do.  Dodson is located on the border of Phillips and Blaine County right between the Milk River and the Little Rocky Mountains and near the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation where guided tours are available to Snake Butte, Mission Canyon, Bear Gulch, and St. Paul’s Mission.  Along the Hi-Line, there are a ton of recreational activities, wildlife viewing, hiking, camping, photography, hunting, and fishing.  I cannot forget to mention the community’s sense of school spirit.  There is a K-12 school, no matter the sporting event, the whole town, and surrounding communities are supporting the “Dodson Coyotes.”

Savoy is located only 57+/- miles from Nelson Reservoir and Sleeping Buffalo.  The Nelson Reservoir/Sleeping Buffalo area sees regular visitors from across the US because of the vast array of recreational opportunities, including fishing, hunting, camping, and many other activities.  Sleeping Buffalo has two commercial establishments, The Buffalo Saloon, a bar and local meeting place, and the Sleeping Buffalo Hot Springs & Resort which offers swimming, sauna, cabins, luxury suites, RV park, pontoon rentals, kayak rentals, & icehouse rentals.

The Charles M. Russel National Wildlife Refuge and the sought-after Missouri River breaks are roughly 72+/- miles away (depending on the route you take or area you travel to) and offers some of the best big game hunting and wildlife viewing in the United States.

37+/- Miles from the town of Malta, MT, the county seat of Phillips County.  There you’ll find the Phillips County Hospital, a grocery store, United States Post Office, 3 banks, grade school, middle school & high school, churches, Amtrak train station, Phillips Country Regional Airport, Phillips County Museum, many retail shops, eateries, taverns, a local brewery, along with many other businesses & amenities.  Population of about 2,000.
