Country Home for Sale in Sw Wisconsin (the Driftless Region)

$ 699,000
S5802 Norwegian Hollow Rd,

Description

ACCEPTED OFFER!!  Property Description: Blending into the natural beauty of Norwegian Hollow w/ its wooded hillsides & majestic views is this wonderful country home/hobby farm. The log-sided home offers a cozy ambiance, spacious rooms, ample closets, a master suite w/ two closets & a private bathroom, oak kitchen cabinets with Corian countertops, a ceramic tile entryway, walnut, oak, and hickory wood flooring, lots of windows & plenty of natural light. An outdoor wood stove provides low-cost heat. Enjoy the warm living-room pellet stove in cooler months & the wraparound covered porch when it's warmer. Whether it's raising animals, gardening, hunting, fishing one of the nearby trout streams, or simply enjoying the country lifestyle, this property offers it all.

The Home: This stick-built log-sided home was built from a Gastineau Log Homes kit in 1994. The sellers are the original owners of the home. The ambiance of the log look connects us with our past and a simpler way of life. This home is also energy efficient.

The sunroom, living room, den/office, and kitchen on the main level offer a variety of spaces to work, relax, entertain, and play. The upstairs is ready for a family to call it a night with 5-6 bedrooms (the septic is sized for a four-bedroom home), and three full bathrooms, which include the master bedroom and private bathroom. The lower level has its own full bathroom and a recreation room with walkout doors and full-length windows that was once a garage space. This space is not directly vent-heated but takes in the heating from other parts of the home and includes an electric space heater for that extra boost of warmth. The basement and sunroom are both finished with repurposed cedar.

Hobby Farm & Land Information: The outbuildings include a 32’ x 20’ pole barn w/ a waterer, a 15’ x 8’ chicken coop with a large walk-out chicken run, a 32’ x 12’ garden shed, & a 32’ x 24’ heated workshop with a second-floor level. At one time the perimeter of the property was fenced with electric fencing. It hasn’t been used in several years, and while it was never removed, it would require some extra work on the part of a new owner to get it up and running again.

The pasture that comes directly off the barn and runs along the yard has barbwire fencing and probably wouldn’t take much to get it ready for livestock. The sellers wintered their cattle in that portion. The pasture in front of the house needs a lot of wire repair. The posts are in place and the sellers believe it wouldn’t take long to get it into shape for pasturing animals.

The sellers’ understanding is that the woods haven’t been logged in maybe 50 years. There is a large garden area and an everbearing raspberry patch. You will enjoy the many Hosta gardens as well.

Heating And the Outdoor Wood Stove: When the temperature outside is above 10 degrees, the living room pellet stove does a great job of providing the desired warmth in the home. The outdoor wood stove provides most if not all the heat in the colder winter months and the sellers’ experience is that if they use good hardwood, it only needs to be stoked once daily. The wood enclosure holds enough wood for two years of heating. The furnace also runs off propane just in case the homeowner prefers that option or plans on being away on a winter vacation. The attached garage is insulated. The warmth created by the heated wood stove fluid lines running to the furnace provides enough heat in the garage to keep it above freezing.

Location: Norwegian Hollow Road is sealcoated. The valley is beautiful and serene. It is a 15-minute drive to Viroqua and about a 35-minute drive to the south side of La Crosse. There are nearby trout streams (Norwegian Hollow Creek and the South Fork of the Bad Axe River). Hunting and hiking are in your own backyard.
